Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is online-only and does not have a single-player campaign. An active internet connection is required. The PS5 store says PS Plus is required for online play, while the Xbox store says console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate. The developers have announced improved tutorials, but they have not officially confirmed a bot match, offline practice mode or solo campaign.
Is there a single-player campaign?
No. The official Hell Let Loose FAQ directly states that Hell Let Loose: Vietnam will not have a single-player campaign. It is a standalone entry rather than an expansion, but its core experience remains large-scale multiplayer built around squads, communication and a player-controlled chain of command.
This distinction matters before buying: “standalone game” means you do not need to own the original Hell Let Loose. It does not mean there is a standalone story mode.
Can you play offline?
No official source supports offline play. The same developer FAQ calls the game online-only and says an active internet connection is required. Steam also lists Online PvP and Cross-Platform Multiplayer as the supported play features.
Will there be bots or a solo practice match?
The official materials checked for this guide do not confirm AI bot matches, bot-filled public servers or an offline practice range. That means the safe answer is unconfirmed, not “definitely no bots.” A future tutorial could include guided or scripted elements without becoming a full offline match mode.
The developers have confirmed a revamped tutorial and improved onboarding for new players. They have not publicly described that tutorial as a bot battle, an offline sandbox or a substitute for multiplayer. We will update this distinction after the launch build is available.
What subscriptions do console players need?
| Platform | What the official store currently says |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Online play is required, and PS Plus is required for online play. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. |
| PC | An internet connection is required. Steam does not list an additional paid multiplayer subscription. |
Subscriptions and plan names can change, so check the product page for your account region immediately before purchase. Crossplay does not remove the console platform's own online-access requirement.
Can one person still play without friends?
You can join an online match by yourself; you do not need to arrive with a pre-made group. You will still be placed into a multiplayer team and should expect to coordinate with squadmates. The game is built around 50-versus-50 battles rather than a private single-player journey.
The official FAQ says prior Hell Let Loose experience is not required and promises improved onboarding. For a first match, use the tutorial content that is available at launch, choose a lower-responsibility infantry role, listen to your squad leader and treat voice communication as part of the design rather than an optional extra.
Buyer checklist
- Buy only if you are comfortable with an online-only tactical shooter.
- Expect multiplayer teammates, a chain of command and communication-focused play.
- Budget for PS Plus on PS5 or Game Pass Core/Ultimate on Xbox console.
- Do not assume bots, offline practice or a story campaign unless an official launch update adds them.
- You do not need to own or finish the original Hell Let Loose first.
